Disadvantages Of Clear Dental Braces
Clear braces
Invisalign is known as the latest method used to straighten teeth, by employing 3D computer technology, where acrylic is used to manufacture a set of transparent devices that cannot be seen, and they come in different sizes, depending on the copy taken from the patient’s teeth, so the teeth are straightened without the need for wires or any metal brackets.
Disadvantages of clear braces
- It is considered expensive compared to traditional braces, because the manufacturing process is very expensive.
- It must be taken care of, and avoid eating spicy foods or hot drinks, which may affect the dimensions of the device and change them, or damage and puncture the device, thus making a new replacement device, and increasing costs.
- The possibility of using clear braces is limited to some cases, as the final row of teeth can only be treated using traditional braces and wires to obtain the desired results.
Features of clear braces
There are many advantages to using clear braces, including:
- Providing psychological and practical comfort to the patient, as patients who wear traditional fixed braces suffer from difficulty in eating and drinking, in addition to the problem of food residues accumulating in and around the wires, which leads to tooth decay and gum inflammation. This is in contrast to transparent braces, which can be removed while eating, which prevents tooth decay, and at the same time provides comfort while eating.
- Clear braces maintain the aesthetic comfort of the patient, as they are made of thin, transparent plastic, which is almost invisible, unlike the ugly-looking traditional braces, with their very clear metal wires.
- Clear braces are characterized by the speed of giving results in orthodontics, as they reduce the time needed for the teeth to be arranged, and also reduce the number of visits to the dentist, because there is no need to replace the metal wires periodically.
Clear aligner manufacturing
- First, you must talk to your dentist about the condition of your teeth and the suitability of clear braces for treating them, as there are some cases in which clear braces cannot be used to treat them.
- Taking some pictures, x-rays, and initial dental impressions and measuring them, to be sent to the laboratory, to make a clear braces model.
- Several devices are made in series of acrylic, equivalent to twenty-four devices, for the patient to use in succession, according to the doctor’s instructions.
Clear aligner treatment period
After placing the clear braces, the patient must visit the doctor approximately every two weeks, in order to monitor the condition and the extent of its improvement. In most cases, when the device is placed for twenty hours a day, the treatment period will require approximately one to one and a half years, but this also depends on the degree of difficulty of the condition, the extent of adherence to treatment, and the doctor’s instructions.
