Stages Of Dental Implants
Dental implants
Many people lose some of their permanent teeth as a result of various diseases that affect the teeth, such as chronic bacterial infection in the tissues responsible for providing support for the tooth, which causes inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth, and its inability to provide the required support, and thus the permanent loss of the tooth, or damage to the tooth, which forces many people to resort to dental implant treatment, which aims to replace damaged teeth, or replace lost teeth, with new metal implants (Implants), made of pure titanium, and this process is considered the most stable alternative, and the most similar to natural teeth, and it provides a permanent and good alternative to teeth for many years, and is considered one of the best artificial installations, and the least defective, but it is expensive.
Benefits of dental implants
The most important benefits of dental implants are as follows:
- Improves oral health and makes the patient feel comfortable.
- Prevents bone loss at the site of the missing tooth and maintains the integrity of the jaw.
- It preserves the integrity of natural teeth, as the procedure is performed without the need to carve the healthy teeth surrounding the missing tooth, unlike other traditional methods.
- It is considered a fixed alternative, as it does not move during eating, improves the ability to chew, and helps the patient during speech, thus avoiding the embarrassment resulting from the loss of moving teeth.
- It restores self-confidence and improves the patient's psychological state.
Dental implant stages
The most important stages of dental implantation are summarized as follows:
- Preparation and equipment stage: The doctor prepares the places for the implant, by drilling into the jawbone, after giving the patient a local anesthesia injection first, then the implants made of pure titanium are inserted into the jawbone in place of the missing tooth, and the temporary crowns are attached to them.
- Healing phase: During this phase, the patient is left for a period of time to allow the jawbone, located between the jawbone and the implant, to heal and fuse, and for the implants to be absorbed in place. This period is estimated at approximately three months for the lower jaw, and six months for the upper jaw.
- Final installation stage: During this stage, the patient undergoes several necessary sessions to reach the final composition of the crowns, which consists of taking impressions of the mouth, and taking molds for the implanted roots and other natural teeth. It is preferable for the crowns to be made of zirconium, because its color is natural. After completing the preparation of the crowns, the final composition must be tested before the final installation process, to ensure its suitability. The patient feels pain and swelling after dental implant treatment, but they disappear within a day or two, and this depends on the patient's susceptibility to treatment. It is also recommended to use a mouthwash to disinfect the mouth, and to take antibiotics, to avoid any inflammation.
